The house as it is now, was a labor of love and attention to detail.
We decided to give form to a Dream Home, and we had all the necessary cards in our hands -the timing was just right. We negotiated, bought and annexed the surrounding lots of land, creating a more private garden and expanding the living space. The Dominican suppliers were importing more modern equipment than the years before, so we were able to choose the top appliances.

An architect drew up our wishes. We updated the plumbing and electrical plans. We extended and altered the design. A trustworthy builder joined the team with a good team of workmen. We felt comfortable to proceed with this great project.

Our family receives a lot of visitors so we needed to add some more luxurious aspects. We wanted our guests to feel special in a Caribbean setting.

That’s why you see a lot of attention to our garden area: the large pool in a free style form, the gazebo with a bar for refreshments as well as a changing area for the outdoor activities, and the magnificent tennis court, made from chevron on top of the asphalt to be gentle on your body.

We also made sure that the house feels safe with its own private entrance. The entire house is detached with walls around the garden. Visitors can park their cars in the garage area and simply enjoy their stay.

We created many areas to choose from for a relaxing and fun time. Whether you are outside in the garden, gazebo, pool or tennis court, or if you are inside in the large social area downstairs with pool table and home theater or upstairs on the terrace, overlooking nature.

We wanted to have a Caribbean and Spanish colonial styled house which would be comfortable, clean and practical. The house interacts with nature and the beautiful tropics we are blessed to live in, but also includes the facilities to retreat to a fresh air conditioned room, to a warm jacuzzi bath or to watch a film on our home theatre system. We updated all bathrooms, kitchen, floors, and windows to be confident that all the woodwork is of mahogany quality, all the floors easy are to clean and every detail was thought of.
Our goal was to build a dream home to enjoy with luxury and ease, using the best materials possible. In the past nine years we have lived in it, we are confident to say we achieved it.

  • 1976: The house was built by the former owner, an engineer. This would be a home for his family to live in for twenty years. He built an impressive house for the seventies: well-constructed,
  • solid, made of good materials. The home is on a hill so the view is over the Isabela River and the land below – a perfect location for a dream home.
  • 2003: The agreement to buy the house is made. Adjacent to the home were 3500 square meters divided between 2 lots, which were also acquired. We enjoy being in nature.
  • 1996: Our family arrives in Santo Domingo and rents the house (and we did so for nearly 8 years, as the owner was not ready to part from this gem of a house yet).
  • One of the reasons we stayed in the Caribbean was to be surrounded by exotic plants and trees, birds and flowers. This extra land would make Altos de Cuesta Hermosa our tropical paradise
  • 2005: Renovations commence to improve the entire area of the house and the gardens.)
  • We levelled the land to become even, changed the pool and garden, added the tennis court, and of course we added a lot of modern details. (See: About the House
  • 2007: Renovations complete and the family is back in our beautiful, new, enormous house: Our Dream HouseOur family, all keen sportsmen and women (hence the tennis court/basketball area/large swimming
  • But one by one, our children graduated from high school and studies, moving to further their studies in Europe, and built their own lives there. We had a feeling they have plans to stay there for a w
  • 2013: The Luxury! Just the two of us, in this wonderful place, enjoying all of its delights and welcoming visitors all of the time. We love our daily tennis match or swim in the comfort of our own ga
